Canker Sores

I woke up with a canker sore the other day.  Not pleasant.  I can not remember the last time I had a canker sore.  I decided to look up causes of canker sores and this is what I found:

The cause of canker sores is unknown, but they tend to run in families. Canker sores may also develop when you:

  • Are stressed or tired.
  • Have your menstrual cycle, if you are a woman.
  • Hurt your mouth, such as biting your lip.
  • Have braces on your teeth.
  • Have food allergies. Eating foods that you are allergic to may cause you to get a canker sore.
  • Eat or drink food or juice that has a lot of acid, such as orange juice.
  • Do not get enough vitamins or minerals in your diet, such as iron.

Interesting list.  I just had my mother and father in-law stay with us for 12 days.  We had a lot of fun, but it was very busy and my diet became a little more unbalanced.  My 2 year old is always smacking me on the face, so that could have been part of it.  Since we had some out-of-towners we bought gallons and gallons of fresh Florida orange juice.  I definitely have a few checks on this list.

So I pulled out my natural remedies for canker sores.  The first night I applied baking soda.  A lot of it actually.  It was not pleasant.  Repeated the second night.  Now that I am on to the third day of this annoyance, I went to the health food store and bought Borax 30C (homeopathic borax).  Little blue container with little white pellets.  Today is the first day of taking this remedy every hour, we will see what tomorrow brings.  I have a few family members that swear by Borax 30C.  I just wish I would have bought it sooner.  I will update any improvement soon.

Update- the canker sore is better, but I have run out of Borax.  I will buy some more Monday if it is not 100% better.
