Coconut Oil for Alzheimer’s Disease

Researchers say the ketones found in coconut oil have slowed the progression of Alzheimer’s disease in some people and may actually prevent it. Video can be found here.

This is great news for my family because both my grandfathers died of Alzheimer’s disease.  My uncles searched and searched for something to help my maternal grandfather and his Alzheimer’s.  He died about 5 years ago.  The doctor in the video has found that Alzheimer’s is very similar to diabetes of the brain.  Her husband reversed many of his symptoms by adding coconut oil into his daily diet.  It is the added Ketones which help reverse the symptoms.   If anyone in your family is suffering from Alzheimer’s, ALS, Parkinson’s, Autism, or Schizophrenia please check out the video.

We have been giving our boys coconut oil since they were babies.  We cook, bake, and make fruit smoothies with it.  It is even good just on plain toast.  I love it as a body lotion too.  There are so many options.   We buy our coconut oil from Green Pastures.  They have the purest form that we can find.  It smells so good.

 

Other health benefits of Coconut oil:

Usage of coconut oils mildly helps for the following:

Liver: The presence of medium chain triglycerides and fatty acids helps in preventing liver diseases as they substances are easily converted into energy when they reach the liver, thus reducing work load on the liver and also preventing accumulation of fat.

Kidney: Coconut oil helps in preventing kidney and gall bladder diseases. It also helps in dissolving kidney stones.

Pancreatitis: Coconut oil is also believed to be useful in treating pancreatitis.

Stress Relief: Coconut oil is very soothing and hence it helps in removing stress. Applying coconut oil to the head followed with a gentle massage helps in removing mental fatigue.

Diabetes: Coconut oil helps in controlling blood sugar, and improves the secretion of insulin. It also helps in effective utilization of blood glucose, thereby preventing and treating diabetes.

Bones: As mentioned earlier, coconut oil improves the ability of our body to absorb important minerals. These include calcium and magnesium  which are necessary for development of bones. Thus coconut oil is very useful to women who are prone to osteoporosis after middle age.

Dental Care: Calcium is an important element present in teeth. Since coconut oil facilitates absorption of calcium by the body, it helps in getting strong teeth. Coconut oil also stops tooth decay.

HIV and Cancer: It is believed that coconut oil plays an instrumental role in reducing viral susceptibility of HIV and cancer patients. Preliminary research has shown indications of the effect of coconut oil on reducing the viral load of HIV patients (Reference).

How to use coconut oil?

Some ways to include coconut oil in your life:

1. use as a lotion or cream- works great on dry skin or areas that may wrinkle

2. 1 T added to any smoothie tastes great.

3. Spread 1 T on plain toast w/ a little butter.

4. Use to fry things- I like it when making asian dishes.

5. Great when cooking crepes.

6. Great oil  substitute for baking (brownies, banana bread, etc)

7. Great added to any coffee or hot chocolate drink. I use it often in the winter.

Just remember there is a hint of coconut and sweetness, so keep that in mind when adding  it to things.  Be creative!

    Oh my gosh, Kaley! Thanks so much! My grandfather was just diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and my grandmother was just diagnosed with Parkinson’s. I am totally going to suggest this to them. And start it with my little family now!

    Coconut Oil is a must in any healthy household. There are so many uses for coconut oil. I use it everyday….one way or another. Make the change and u will see other great benefits!!! you will not be sorry 🙂

    Do you have any recipes that you can share using the coconut oil…. I have Alzheimer in both side of my family….I am going to order some..Thanks for information…..

      We use coconut oil daily. It is great in smoothies (1 T), on plain toast, used anytime a recipe calls for oil….especially in brownies, great for sauté foods (but there is a sweet taste- so make sure it fits). We also use it for lotions and creams. It is great on the skin. I used to rub it all over my son when he was a newborn. The skin will absorb the healing properties. We love it.
