Natural Remedy for Fever

Belladonna is a great remedy for fever. Of course, a doctor should be consulted anytime the parent feels like condition is serious enough.  One of the great things about homeopathic remedies is that they work quickly, especially for acute situations.  That is, if you have selected the correct remedy.  Belladonna should always be considered for a fever when:

~given at first stages of a fever

~there is a sudden onset of high fever

~redness on face, flushed cheeks, red lips

~the skin is so hot that it radiates, hot heads

~the fever is dry heat, w/o perspiration

~strong pulse

~temperature spikes at night, agitation, delirious, hallucinate

Other great fever remedies :aconite, ferrum phos, nux vomica, pulsatilla, sulphur

Reference: Homeopathic Medicine for Children and Infants, Dana Ullman

I have had great success with Belladonna in our family.  The key is to take it right at the onset of a fever, once you have had one for 2 or 3 days it works much slower.  We have not treated any fevers with tylenol since learning about Belladonna.  We purchase Belladonna 200C from ABC Homeopathy.  Also, fevers are a sign that the body is fighting an infection.  Which is a good thing.  A healthy immune system should try to fight off infections.  When there is a complication or a compromised immune system a high fever (or prolonged fever) can be a sign of danger. Homeopathy does not suppress a fever, but it helps along with the healing process.  Homeopathy helps compliment the immune system so it can do it’s job….and eventually beat the infection.

  1. What about the poisonous properties of Belladonna? http://library.thinkquest.org/C007974/1_2bel.htm It kind of worries me that they used to use it as a poison, I’ve given my child some homeopathic medicine with belladonna but I’m still not completely sure how much is too much and if its truly safe.

Homeopathic medicines are attenuated, diluted and potentised to be sure our remedies are curative and not going to injure our patients. This is why Hahnemann(founder of homeopathy) specified the ‘minimum’ dose = that is the
least amount of medicine it takes to cure the patient, gently, effectively,
      and quickly.

Added: Once the original substance is no longer present (after it is diluted and potentised), the remaining energy in the solvent can be continually enhanced- ad infinitum. Hope that helps!
