Fats are GOOD.

I stumbled upon a blog today called Eatin’ fat.  This blogger (Brittany) is a mother of 3 children and her family has been on the GAPS Diet for a year now.  She talks about the ups and downs of life on this diet.  The good, the bad, and the ugly detoxing.  Detoxing is part of any body cleanse.  We have lots of detoxing going on in our home.  This is a great sign that the body is working to get the bad out.  After all, that is the goal.

Now, back to fats.  Brittany has a great post on eating  Fat and Sugar.  A nutritionist came to speak at a women’s health gathering.  Here are some of her points.

~If you can change one thing…change your fats.
~Your cell wall is made up of fat. You want stable cells, that do not mutate, so you need a strong wall. You must eat plenty of good fats in order to keep those cells stable and strong.
~Your brain in some areas are 90% fat. In order to have a healthy, functioning brain, eat good fats.
~Good fats are: Butter, Coconut Oil, Animal fats, Olive oil, Ghee
~Children’s diets should be made up of 30-80% fat. Their brains and bodies are still growing.
~Coconut oil is cheaper then butter, incorporate and ROTATE all good fats, they all have an importance!
~Sugar is sooooo damaging to the body. It is so incredibly processed, it is foreign to the body.
~It takes 32 molecules of calcium to breakdown 1 molecule of sugar, so sugar is depleting your body of minerals that it desperately needs.
~Natural sugars: Honey, maple syrup, coconut sugar, stevia etc
~The biggest key, eat MORE good fats, eat LESS sugar.

In most cases, eating healthy fats does not make you gain weight.  That is a big concern for people including more fats.  It seems to be the biggest worry.  The key, to replace the processed carbs and sugars with healthy fats.  When you eat more fats you remain full longer and the sugar crashes diminish.  That is why most people lose weight (if you are over weight).  Your body will reach a “healthy” weight depending on your own individual circumstances.  You will have increased energy and better focus.  When I was on the raw milk cure, I had the most energy that I have had in years.  My adrenal fatigue completely disappeared.  I was never tired.  Which is pretty rare for me ~raising 2 little boys.  Another great side effect was mental clarity.  My emotions were stable and my mind was totally clear.  I felt like my brain was functioning better.  If that is even possible.  Raw milk is loaded with healthy fats and enzymes.  It is also a healing food.  In my little home, we include healthy fats in every meal.  I want my boys to have the best growth and development that good nutrition can provide.

Hey Kaley! Lindsay just called me today and told me about you. Thanks for commenting. I’m so glad to see so many people writing about healthy foods. I think the word is spreading, and we will see more and more people eating healthy. It’s too bad that it has taken poor health for all of us to figure this out, but at least we are trying to change. Can’t wait to read more of your blog!
