No Sugar Challenge (Day 2)

I was going to wait a few days to write a post, but today was SUPER hard for me.  Why was today so much harder than yesterday?  I'm not too sure.  I could really tell a difference in my mood~ in a negative way.  I was super cranky with the kids, low energy, and felt depressed.  This is not like me to feel depressed- I [...]

No Sugar Challenge

I have decided to do a little no sugar diet for 2 weeks.  What? Crazy I know.  What sparked all this?   A Facebook page I found this morning.  This woman cut out sugar for 8 weeks and had amazing results.  Here is her fb page.  She suffered from hypoglycemia and an auto-immune disease.  I have these same issues in some form or another.  Check [...]

Benefits of Fish Oil

There are many health benefits of fish oil (and fermented cod liver oil).  The benefits of fish oil are well documented.  Researchers at Ohio State found that taking omega-3 supplements (a.k.a. fish oil) can help slow the body’s aging process by lengthening telomeres that often shorten with age. Telomeres are small DNA segments in white blood cells that shorten over time as the result of [...]

Kefir Ice Cream is refreshing and light.  There are many health benefits to eating kefir ice cream.  Probiotics (found in kefir) help keep an immune system strong and healthy.  The more friendly bacteria in your diet the better!  We eat probiotic rich foods, beverages, and desserts.  This is a great one. Nourishing Our Children

Nourishing Our Children is a relatively new (2005) non-profit that is based in San Francisco, CA.  I want to help  get their message to others. What is their mission? "To address the dramatic deterioration in the health of our children. This decline is evidenced by the rise in child obesity, dental deformities such as crooked teeth, learning disabilities, behavior problems and chronic diseases such as asthma, [...]

Fats are GOOD.

I stumbled upon a blog today called Eatin' fat.  This blogger (Brittany) is a mother of 3 children and her family has been on the GAPS Diet for a year now.  She talks about the ups and downs of life on this diet.  The good, the bad, and the ugly detoxing.  Detoxing is part of any body cleanse.  We have lots of detoxing going on [...]

Real Foods Market

Today I was talking to one of my college friends about resources in her area for Real Food.  She's thinking about including more real foods in her family's diet (she has 2 small children).  We talked about how important it is for our kids to eat healthy fats daily.  Where are these healthy fats coming from? One of the first things I recommend is Raw [...]

Vitamin B-12 Deficiency

Vitamin B12 is a very important vitamin.  When we eat processed foods, valuable vitamins and nutrients are lost.  I had no idea until after I delivered my first son that I was severely deficient in Vit B12.  A blood test confirmed this after I had nursed him for  about 10 months.  I had the early signs of Vitamin B12 deficiency.  I wish I had known [...]
