Essential Oils for Bug Bites

Essential Oils for Bug Bites

We are visiting my parents ranch in Florida and the boys are outside playing all day long.  They are swimming, riding horses, catching butterflies, picking figs, fishing, counting cows, etc.  Lots of sunshine and lots of bugs.   I have tested and tried many essential oils.  I have discovered my favorite essential oils for bug bites and stings.  Some essential oils work a little better than others.  These essential oils helps relieve the sting and the itch.

4 Essential Oils for Bug Bites:

Tea Tree Oil

1-2 drops of oil directly on the bite.  Or dilute the oil 1 drop essential oil/ 1 drop olive oil .  Place it on bite 3-4 times a day.  Very simple and non toxic!

Lavender and Peppermintthese essential oils relieve the itchiness and reduce the chances of infection.

Lavender: antitoxic and venomous properties. Very effective against bites and stings.

Frankinsense: helps with redness and swelling.  Great for big bites and stings.

Peppermint: My favorite bug deterrent.  Whenever I use the essential oil liberally I get no BUG BITES.

My oldest son was stung by a wasp two days ago and my 3 year old was stung by a bee a week ago.  The bee stinger was stuck in his leg and I had to pull it out.  He was SCREAMING!  The essential oils really helped the stings immediately.  They stopped crying and the pain subsided quickly.

I have also made homemade bug and insect repellent.  These work well and really keep the bugs off!

Homemade Insect Repellent

Homemade Bug Spray

I have a homemade fly spray that works great.  Post coming soon.

I use beestings as therapy for my arthritis. The stings don’t bother me as they hurt for less that a minute, but the itching can go on for days and drives me crazy! I need a good anti-itch remedy that won’t compromise the venom or its effects. Would lavender and peppermint essential oils be the solution?

    Thanks for your help.

Lavender should work ok. Maybe someone else will chime in with a little more experience with this. GOod luck!
